HOW DO I KNOW IF IT'S TIME TO SAY  GOODBYE?

At After Life Vets we understand that it is difficult to make this decision and we are aware that no one wants to say farewell to their pet. However, there will come a time when they are ready to move on. To help you to decide when to make this difficult decision we offer advice by phone, video call or home visit to make a quality of life assessment for your pet.

WHAT DOES THE EUTHANASIA PROCEDURE CONSIST OF AND HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

When the Veterinary Surgeon arrives at your home he will assess your pet’s quality
of life with you. Once you have decided that euthanasia is the right option for your pet, they will be sedated. This is administered by a small injection and your pet will feel nothing more than a small scratch. Depending on the size of your pet the sedation takes 10-20 minutes to take effect. During this time, your pet will slowly start falling asleep. Once sedated, your pet will receive an anesthetic injection which will allow them to pass away peacefully in less than 1 minute.

During this important moment, you will be allowed to have as much time as you need between each of the steps mentioned above.

WILL MY PET SUFFER DURING EUTHANASIA?

No. It uses medications similar to the ones we would use for an anesthetic. So the only thing your pet may notice is the initial injection with a sedative, and will then fall asleep as if it were an anesthesic.

MY DOG IS SCARED OF VETS, WILL YOU USE A MUZZLE?

One of the reasons that we perform home visits is to provide a stress-free environment for your pet.
Normally they do not expect a visit from a veterinarian at home, so they will simply see us as a friend who has come to visit and together we will find a distraction, be it his favorite toy, treats, or whatever your pet may feel more comfortable with.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER SAYING GOODBYE?

We are here to support you with aftercare for your pet, whether you decide to organise your own burial or cremation or have these arrangements made through us.

You will be able to decide between an individual cremation, during which your pet is cremated on their own and their ashes returned to you, or a communal cremation.

HOW MUCH DOES THE HOME EUTHANASIA SERVICE COST?

We are the first team specialised in providing end-of-life pet care and home euthanasia in this area.
As animal lovers, we know that saying goodbye to a beloved animal companion needs to be a special moment. As a member of your family, their euthanasia is an experience that must be performed compassionately.
We ensure that each time we offer this service it is as perfect as possible so that it remains a peaceful memory for life. We spend an average of 2-3 hours on each visit including travel time, therefore our prices not only reflect our experience but also the time we spend providing a unique and personalised service.
We believe that this service should be the same price for all pets, as the emotional value of a pet is not measured by their size.

You can find more details of the price on the pages "Quality of life assesment for your pet" and "Two-step home pet euthanasia".

*At After Life we reserve the right to decide whether the animal should be euthanized, based on the Veterinary Code of Ethics. In the event that the visit is made and it is decided not to proceed with euthanasia, the amount will have to be paid. It is recommended to ask your veterinarian to send us the clinical history to avoid misunderstandings.
